This walking tour tells the story of the development of the old village of Buxton and introduces you to some of the people who have called it home. You also hear the history of many of the town’s pubs (most of which claim to be the oldest in town), visit Buxton’s oldest building, and sample some local brews – a real bonus!
Starting from the Opera House forecourt, we head into the Pavilion Gardens and then begin our traverse up The Slopes to Higher Buxton, hearing about the development of Buxton.
Once on the Market Place, we hear the history of the pubs lining its sides, including the Kings Head, The Eagle (or The Eagle & Child) and the White Hart. We then head down the High Street, hearing about more pubs, and visit St Anne’s Church and graveyard. After walking the cobbled streets and alleyways of the oldest part of the old village, we end with a sampling of Titanic beers at the Cheshire Cheese.
