Bill Weston is a well-known character in the town and was recognised for his contribution to the community of Buxton when he was awarded an MBE. Bill recalls his early memories growing up in Buxton and seeing the gas lamps being lit outside of his house. As you can imagine, his interview is warm, witty and wonderfully evocative of times past.

We also listen in as Keith Savage and John Wilson open a forgotten archive from Buxton’s Festival Fringe. This is an exciting and fascinating peek into the last 20 years of the zany and thought-provoking productions which we see each year at the Fringe Festival.

The third section of this month’s podcast is the beginning of a long look at the history of music in Buxton. We even get to hear from tram driver, Michael Clement, as he recalls why, as a musician, he so loves the town of Buxton.

This month, we are particularly working hard on the collection of oral memories for our joint project Present from the Past. We are delighted that Buxton Museum & Art Gallery have kindly agreed to hold these interviews and send them on to the records office in Matlock so that, in the future, people can listen in on the memories of Buxton. The University of Third Age is also working with us to record interviews for this worthwhile project.
