Buxton Calling #24 | May 2018
The Buxton Palimpsest
Join us on a walk down memory lane, in this case, Spring Gardens in Buxton, and listen out for the voices from the past and the clues to what might have been obliterated to make way for the new.
We walk down our main shopping street with local woman Barbara Bagshaw whose memories go back over 70 years when she first worked as a dispensing assistant at Timothy White’s and Taylor’s.We hear from other locals too as we delve into the museum’s collections in the landscape.
We are reminded of the marvellous customer service at the Maypole and discover a secret world behind the shop now known as La Maison. Our adventures place us on the cobbles of the old main road and we hear, from new owner Lee, about some of the stories of the building.
Along the way we are joined by voices from the past as we hear about the old theatre ,illegal gambling and a visit from a Princess. Enjoy our March podcast.
