Mary Queen of Scots: a Tudor experience

The Tour

See 16th Century Buxton brought to life in the tale of Mary Queen of Scots told by the Queen herself in full Tudor costume. As you can imagine an audience with the Queen is a most special experience, so come and be guided through the experiences of the imprisoned Queen and her time in Buxton. Mary Queen of Scots visited Buxton at least 7 times between 1573 and 1584 attracting many members of the Elizabethan court.

The writings, sketches and the symbols that were scratched on the window of The Old Hall Hotel will be featured and explained by our costumed tour guide.

From the Old Hall Hotel our guide reveals the story of the Queen whilst showing guests the interior of the hotel and the places the Queen left her mark. There are many hidden secrets to this place including Talbots Tower which still exists in the centre of the building. Our gracious Queen ‘guide’ will explain how the building looked to her and what imprisonment felt like in an innovative interpretation of history.
