November 2015 | Buxton Calling #7
Present from the Past
A podcast, not only with the whispers accompanying the ‘Glow’ installation in the Crescent (created by artist Andrew Robinson, John Wilson and Adam Henry), but also with the beginning of a new initiative ‘Present from the Past’ – an audio archive being set up in the town. Discover Buxton had joined forces with the Crescent redevelopment, Buxton U3A Oral History Group, Past Lives and Buxton Museum & Art Gallery to collect and preserve some of your most precious memories. Anne Rogerson of Buxton U3A shares some of her passion for history.
You’ll be very welcome to join us at the launch of ‘Present from the Past’ at the Old Hall Hotel, Buxton on Thursday 10th December at 10.30am, where you can find out how to get involved and hear some of the recorded memories already in the archive. Rumour has it there will be coffee and cake!
95 year-old Oliver Gomersal, senior member of the Buxton Historical Society, has already been recorded for Buxton Museum’s Collections in the Landscape audio trails and for the ‘Glow’ installation in the Crescent, so it was our sincere pleasure to spend time with him this month, remembering his charismatic polymath father, Arthur.
