Buxton Calling #20 | August 2017

Mystery & Magic

When fans of Harry Potter and the wizarding world attended the Philosophers Dome earlier this summer, we decided that we should find out just what magic means to people.

Buxton it would appear is no stranger to magical goings on and our visit to Buxton Museum gave us the opportunity to explore the Randini collection.

Randini, sometimes known as the man who helped Houdini, lived in Castleton, Derbyshire and when he died his widow donated the contents of his House of Wonders to the museum. We also interviewed Ann Beedham who has just written a book about his life and work.

Finally, we met with the enigmatic Darcus Wolfson who told us about Skellybob wood, ghouls, witches and the darker side of Buxton.

So do you believe in fairies? Do we need to believe in magic? Listen in, we dare you!
