Robert Rippon Duke was the architectural advisor to the Duke of Devonshire as well as the foremost builder and architect of Victorian Buxton.
Visitors to Buxton and even resident Buxtonians seem largely unaware of Mr Duke’s role in transforming Buxton from a village into a buzzing, fashionable Victorian spa town.

Join Mr Duke from outside of the Buxton Opera House to visit first the Octagon of the Pavilion Gardens built in 1875 then proceed through the town via The Crescent to the oft overlooked buildings behind The Grove Hotel finishing at his masterpiece The Dome now part of the University of Derby.
